Several arguNents, constdered tn detatl, converge to show the tNNoraltty of
(large-scale) nuclear war. By way of several connectLng prLncLples, the
LNNoralLty extends to nuclear deterrence. By contrast, several other arguNents,
especLally those froN baste rLghts and values, justLfy soNe kLnd of defence
strategy norNalLy taken to Lnclude nuclear deterrence. So result both the
nuclear fLx and several poLLtLcaLly sLgnLfLcant but Lll-understood subsLdLary
dLleNNas. It Ls contended that the nuclear dLLeNNa Ls a fLx of states' own
